My friend Nancy reminded me. Ten years ago today my first album, Invitation To Eavesdrop released.
Let’s just sit back and take in the facial hair together shall we?
I wore Versace shirts and Diesel jeans and a sweet calf skin coat back then. I toured with a fifteen year-old Katy Hudson. I had one baby girl. And a record deal. But I was certain they’d let me make just the one album and then I’d be done.
Ten years is a long time.
Swapped upscale now brands for fair trade and second hand. Katy changed her last name to Perry and started kissing girls. That record label closed its doors. And, to my surprise, I’m still making music – thanks to you – without the facial hair sculpting.
Here’s to another ten years. Together.
Melody Joy King says:
For what it’s worth, you’ve aged very gracefully. :0) I still love that album!
Beth says:
I love this album! The facial hair is fine. I think you smile more now.
Denise Shuff says:
Welcome Home ๐
Jason says:
Yeah, you’re better off without the goatee. ๐
Sara @ Happy Brown House says:
Wow. There’s a chance the guy in the bottom left corner just shanked a guy in prison. He looks like a Mexican drug-lord. Can someone say Medellin Cartel? Who ever thought you’d end up a mom blogger? ๐
Kelli says:
Loved that album! And my brand new husband sported similar facial hair at that time. I gotta say…I don’t miss it at all. ๐ Here’s to another ten years of changing lives and making music!
Melissa Jones says:
I think you looked like Ben Stiller in “Dodgeball.” You look much less angsty now.
Lindsay says:
Not gonna lie:
Facial hair or no facial hair, “After the Music Fades” is still one of my favorites.
Abby says:
SATELLITE!! played that song over and over again! ๐
Brad says:
Thanks for letting us “eavesdrop”.
Angie says:
My my my, what the years can do -and Grace.
You look much happier now.
And that album is fantastic and still holds up 10 years later.
JessicaB says:
Was this just after The Backstreet Boys rejected you on the merits that you didn’t have yellow tinted sunglasses to compliment your trinitee?
Glad you’re still making music. And that I caught you on a less creepy decade. (I kid, I kid)
Bernard Shuford says:
Katy? Really?
Kevin says:
Hi Shaun, despite the facial hair, you had me at “Welcome Home.” I was a new believer and I’ve been hooked by the personal nature of the song for the past decade. The metaphor of my heart being a home with rooms that needed cleaning and desperately wanting Jesus to make a home with me has helped fill a longing that only deepens as I get to know my Lord and Savior Jesus.
Thanks Shaun for writing and singing what’s on my heart. I can’t wait for “Third World Symphony.”
Jonny says:
Some of those beards are pretty interesting lol. Can’t wait to hear this new album!
jen says:
Has it been ten years . . . NO! Cause I’m sure it was just yesterday that I first heard Welcome Home then ran out to buy that CD! I had just one baby girl then too!
Great job – great music! Thank you for the way you have challenged me to walk closer to a Great God!
Kris says:
10 years later, and so many great changes. God is good and I am so thankful to have ‘discovered’ you now ๐ Rock on, (please?) You bless!
Adam says:
Wow, 10 years is a long time…but then again…is it? If I say it is a long time, then I feel old lol. I still hear songs from that album on my iPod and in my head. Congrats, here’s to another wonderful 10 years…which isn’t that long of a time.
Paula says:
10 years – really? Seems like only yesterday you were here in Belfast. What a journey – thanks for letting us be part of it.
Kat says:
Has it only been 10 years? It’s ridiculous how much has changed since then.
I remember when that album came out because you came to KSBJ and did a concert for our “Brown Bag” concert series. I don’t remember all the artists that came and went over the years but I remember when you came because our intern (a goofy 17 year old) dressed up…like you. He had a similar build and hair color and I think he even grew the facial hair for the occasion. I remember wondering if you thought he was funny or creepy.
But that was when I still lived in Houston, no kids, no blogging. There were no iPhones. I even carried a pager, remember those?
Now that goofy intern is a very cool (non creepy) big time DJ. I have THREE kids and I spend much of my time doing things that weren’t even heard of back then: Blogging, Tweeting, Facebooking.
Amazing how much can change in 10 years! Also? I definitely think your new album is your best yet.
