ok, don’t laugh, but a stupid and terribly written christmas movie i caught on abc family yesterday. it really reminded me to love on my husband as much as possible because you don’t know how much time you have left.
so sad.
but it’s true.
Cali Amy says:
Meaningful? Probably HRG dying and getting resurrected on Heroes all in the span of five minutes…
Kat says:
I’m honestly not trying to sound sarcastic, but is there really anything meaningful on tv?
I’ve seen meaningful stuff on youtube and google video recently, but tv…I can’t think of anything.
Travis Cottrell says:
The Patriots almost losing…
Cristy says:
Well, since we travel to visit family for Thanksgiving, the TV hasn’t been on in our house (or the house in which we were staying) for the last week, until last night. It was our annual viewing of “A Christmas Story”, which is only meaningful because our family watches it together each year. (You know – It’s hard to get teenagers to sit still these days!)

A&M beating UT for the second year in a row.
If you include through tomorrow night, I would say the Charlie Brown Christmas Special.
Brandy says:
Dust.
Anon says:
lol, I like Brandy’s comment! I haven’t seen anything meaningful on TV recently… unless if counts that we use the same monitor for TV as well as Internet
Cruz-Control says:

i’ve got absolutely nothing.

It’s A Wonderful Life was on.
The older I get the more profound it gets!
(Oh and MU beat KU for the title of #1 in by far the best football either school has seen. Brought a tear to my eye!)
Oh and some great videos on Gospel Music channel getting me ready for Christmas and life in general.

My foodie father had the Food Channel on, and they had the stars of all of their top shows – Emeril, Rachael Ray, Alton Brown, that really Southern lady, etc. – sitting around a table and talking about their special Thanksgiving dishes. And it reminded me that if you have good people or characters on your show, the script writes itself. Who needs writers? Let ‘em strike!
Cali Amy says:
yeah, I think there can be meaningful stuff on tv. I think it’s highly underrated. Especially by Christians. ha.
Seriously, though, some tv shows really are art forms.
And there are always things like documentaries, news specials, etc that can inform and educated.
Brandy says:
Please, don’t misunderstand. I watch TV. I like TV. I guess it just depends on your definition of meaningful. Because the things I watch, while entertaining, and sometimes even thought-provoking, are usually far from meaningful. The meaning comes when I’m living life. To me, I draw meaning from hanging out with friends, not watching Friends (which I do watch). From reading a good book, talking to my family, traveling, working, writing. Rarely from television. Maybe that’s just me though.
Biblefanmaryann says:
I don’t watch a lot of tv. I can’t think of anything really meaningful. However, the other day I was using the computer in the same room as a tv that someone in my family was watching. (this is gonna sound stupid) It was some kind of celebrity gossip show, and as I glanced over now and then I was just upset that the media gives those people no privacy at all. Even if the celebrity seems dumb, they still deserve at least a little respect. Ugh.
Grovesfan says:
I would have to echo Brandy’s comments. I watch tv, but just for the “entertainment” value; not usually for meaning. I did see a very good show the other day though on the History Channel about the writings of Josephus and the crucifixion of Christ. I have to say that I didn’t agree with much of what it was saying, but it was thought provoking to say the least.

Nancy Tyler says:
I think the most meaningful thing I saw on TV this week was the local story of the divorced father of three who killed his kids, his ex and himself on Thanksgiving day in a local park. Neighbors didn’t see it coming. It made me wonder what I don’t see in my own neighbors’ lives. Those I do know, I haven’t been making a point of seeing enough. I’ve really been hibernating this past year. And I’ve just found out that at least two of them could use a more attentive friend in me than I’ve been lately.
keith says:
At my grandmother-in-law’s house there was this show on Discovery about a family with quintuplets. I think it was pretty meaningful, but I was kind of distracted.
P.D. Ross says:
If dvds count it is Rob Bell’s Everything is Spiritual DVD. If not, it’s the Pats almost losing.
Cali Amy says:
I have to laugh at how bad my grammar is in that comment, particularly when I say educated instead of educate. oh well.
I get what you’re saying Brandy, and I agree that the definition of meaningful might make the difference. I guess I was just trying to say that I think tv can be like music or books or films…an art form. A story gets told and that can have meaning.
Dan da Man says:
TV? What’s that? Do you mean YouTube or Joost?
Seriously, I haven’t watched TV in a month or two. I can only think of two things I watched on TV this year, and that’s the Super Bowl and the Star Wars episode of Family Guy.

St. Judes Children’s Hospital Commercial…give thanks.

I caught up on some episodes of Friday Night Lights yesterday. So many themes in the show can spark some amazing conversations.
– redemption
– value/worth
– family commitmet
– forgiveness
– leadership
– an everyday example
– etc.

Extreme Makehover Home Edition.
Love that show.
They did a special on domestic violence. What a great way to raise awareness.
