I’m at the largest club in Minneapolis tonight, just down the road from First Ave, the club made famous by the purple one and his movie about rain of the same color.
This is the best looking small music venue I’ve ever played. Everything is metal red and black, very modern, with an over-the-top sound system and lighting rig – I wonder if they realize I’m just a guy with a guitar.
The show is free, so if you’re in the area stop by – or send the show info to those you know up this way.
This will no doubt be a rougher than usual weekend for us. After the show tonight we get to sleep, then it’s up in the morning for a four hour drive to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After that show we do some late night driving for another four hours, get in around 2AM and wake up to sound check at 7:45AM and teach/play in two church services in Earlham, Iowa Sunday morning. Then, Sunday night, I play a show at the same church. Then sleep fast before some more driving Monday morning to the nearest airport (not very near) for a flight home. Then I baby sit the kids Monday afternoon.
Ouch.
Some of you showing up would sure make the sleep deprivation easier to take.
Tracy says:
I’m a little competitive and like holding the record. However, in light of the crazy weekend, and the fact that there are thousands of kids with needs, I am praying that at least 134 kids get sponsored this weekend!!!!
Shaun Groves says:
Actually, Tracy, the final numbers from your church came in at 137!
I’ll let you know if it gets beat. If not, maybe there’s some sort of trophy for the promoter whose show gets the most kids sponsored at end of this tour. Hmmm…
Tracy says:
Wow. . . I can’t wait for that!
Shaun Groves says:
Correction, the show tonight was $10 then was changed to free and NOW is back to $10.
Confused?
Me too.
Brody Harper says:
The rental car was more than we expected….
just kidding…
Melinda says:
Wow and I thought I had a busy life. I won’t complain anymore about the few things I have to do in my life. I love how men always say “baby-sit” when they are watching their children. My husband does the samething!
Shaun Groves says:
Hey! Watch the generalities, Melinda ; )
Men
Always
All men?
No, just me. I’m the idiot.
Correction: I’m WATCHING my children on Monday while my wife takes a break.
Geez. Public accountability stings a little.

Club 3 degrees was way more cool when it was up the street and they were’nt trying to be a huge deal… Back in the day (nearing 20 years ago) The NEW “UNION” was a place where local bands and college kids hung out and used tfeir gifts and enjoyed some sweet fellowship..
Sometimes when things get “bigger” – they don’t necessarily improve. Or maybe that’s just me getting old and being nostalgic….
That said, wish Icould’ve been there to see ya at the club
Shaun Groves says:
Two bands made up of locals opened for me. I missed the first one but the second one was great. Forgot to mention them. But they were truly great. The Auburns was their name.
Grovesfan says:
Great show last night even though you didn’t do the “Smitty Tribute.” The venue was cool; especially when the sound was at the right level for your show. The first two bands were good, except I couldn’t understand the words because they were just too loud. Does that mean I’m old?
It was comfortable though and I only had to navigate the stairs in my “boot” once, so it wasn’t too bad.
Brody,
Start saving for the camera now. You KNOW you want one!

Great show Shaun!
I am so glad I drove up to Mpls to see you with my daughter. We had a wonderful day together and you topped it off perfectly. Sorry I couldn’t make it to Sioux Falls, too, I would have enjoyed it again. Thank you and bless you for all you do.
