Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. – 1 Peter 1:22

“Obeying the truth” was an idiom in Peter’s day for conversion to Christianity.

Everyone who has undergone this conversion is now purified. And is now family.

Not because of our agreement in everything but because of Christ’s atonement over everything.

So what?

So love.

Sincerely: anypókritos – genuinely, not as an actor playing a part

Deeply: ektenós – fervently, continuously, on the rack, under strain

Only the converted, the purified, the real family of God can love when stretched.

Because Christ was stretched out for us. And now loves through us.
