Oh my gosh, I am so glad to know that ours is not the only home plagued by freak lava floods. It’s really a miracle that all our limbs are still in tact.
Brings back memories! My brothers and I had a whole circuit using my mother’s living room furniture. I can’t remember if we ever got in trouble for that or not. It sure was fun.
Our kids play “Lava Monster” at the park….(a tag style game where only the lava monster “it” can touch the ground.)
And our youngest just tonight declared that his most favorite stuffed puppy is the commander general of all his other toys and that’s what keeps him from having bad dreams at night…his army of toys with puppy in charge.
Your kiddo is just so striking. He radiates a joy and beauty that catches my eye every time I see him. For us it was forts, castles, moats, and monsters. Gotta watch out for those snakes that might crawl from the moat into the castle lands… yikes!
I am so thankful I stumbled across this! A friend shared it on facebook…I get depressed over all the endless bad news and all the evil people that the news is full of. The world needs more people like YOU. By the way, my twin sister and I used to play this back in the late 0’s…. 🙂
LOL what a cutie! I remember the bears that would catch you if you trod on the cracks in the pavement when I was little, and crocodiles that pretended to be tree roots.
My girls are always bouncing off the furniture doing ‘gymnastics’. They’re not supposed to, but since when did that stop any rambunctious 8 and 6 year olds? And now she wants a beam for her birthday…
You’re not kidding! I have fond memories of “avoiding the lava” with my older brother when I was a kid. I remember what a blast it was and how crazy my imagination would go. Another one of my favorites was “avoiding the shark-infested waters”. (I thank “Jaws” for that one.) Thank you for sharing these pictures—they made my day!

Kathy says:
Is that Lowly Worm?!
Shaun Groves says:
No, Aunt Kathy, that’s a fire-resistant log floating in a lake of molten lava. Duh.
Kathy says:
Yes! Or the alligators under the swing-set…
Shaun Groves says:
What’s wrong with your swingset? We have lions under ours. Doesn’t everybody?
Kathy says:
We obviously live in different climates… ;o)
Liz says:
Oh, gosh, I had totally forgotten about the hot lava!
What fun!
Dave says:
We even had a lava monster named “Magma Man” who could chase you! http://raisingmen.net/2011/09/wrestle-time/
Prudence Landis says:
We played this only on a very large merry-go-round in the school play ground. Not only did we have lava, but oceans.
Carly says:
Oddly enough, we were just discussing the crocodiles under the bed two nights ago!

I was just thinking this, too! Glad to know I’m not the only one who sees the resemblance!

How about the “Under the Blanket Monster” that tried to catch little children who tried to wake up Dad on Saturday mornings?
