(from left to right: Troy Polamalu, Spiderman, Justin Bieber, Cleopatra)
“What is Helloveen, Dad?”
“Well…Sambhaji will dress up like Spiderman. All the kids will dress up. We’ll go for a walk and people will give us candy.”
An eruption of laughter – “Nooooooooo!”
“Yes, I promise!” I said. “Really! Go for a walk and get candy.”
“Nooooooooo! What is Helloveen, Dad?”
Welcome to America, son. Unfathomably awesome at times.

Shaun Groves says:
Thanks, Shana. We’re still dealing with sugar hangover in our house. Good luck with yours.

My three-year-old and 18-month-old had similar sentiments yesterday. After each house, they would walk away in stunned disbelief, looking at the candy in their bag and then at my face and then back to the candy. “What is going ON?”
Shaun Groves says:
Yep. After every house, Sambhaji would ask “Please more candy?” And every time I assured him there was much much more to come his eyes almost popped out of his head as he giggled off to another front porch.
Sarah says:
Unfathomably awesome! I love it!
Susan says:

I think a lot of parents and teachers would approve of calling it “helloveen” but whatever we call it, surely we can agree it is “unfathomably awesome” for so many reasons.
Shaun Groves says:
I think the name has stuck in our house now!
Mary says:
Absolutely adorable!! You are so blessed!
Shaun Groves says:
Absolutely. Thanks for stopping by, Mary.

Awesome man, I can’t help but show off my children as well…they create such wonderful fun.
BTW, off topic…”Kingdom Coming” is becoming a huge fave for me and a bunch of my friends.
John says:
We had a princess, wacky scientist, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, pirate, and Superman all bring in a huge haul. Most of which we’re sending to the troops deployed overseas. Dad also has a stash that he’s hiding for himself.
nancy says:
Okay, I liked you after hearing you speak at Relevant. Now that I know you send one of your kids out dressed as Troy Polamalu, you’ve suddenly become one of my favorite people!
Stacy says:
So precious! And I’m not just saying that because of the Polamalu fan. Really. Go Steelers!
I miss those days with my kids. Enjoy.
Jennifer Pelletier says:
Saw Brian’s post of the crew. That was a formidable gang of kids. I wish we’d been one of the houses to see you guys, but I think we were headed home to bed with two cranky boys when you headed out. At least based on the time. YOU GUYS are awesome for sharing your love so far and wide, though!!
Ericaj says:
I love all those costumes. They are all awesome.
