The new album is mastered now! Matt Odmark (Jars of Clay) finished it up yesterday. Now all that’s left is for him to edit the blank space at the beginnings and ends of songs, and put them in order on the disc. Then I’ll send it off to be duplicated.
I’ve tried before to explain what mastering does to music. I failed miserably. But, here, you can listen for yourself. Here’s the song All Is Grace from first draft to mastered final. (To refresh your memory on the recording process we used, go here.)

Saw your tweet and hopped over. I love that you let us hear each step!
Our worship team has done three cd’s, two with all original stuff, so when we were practicing for the live concerts all we had were the demos. It’s so neat to hear the songs through the process. And it makes us grateful for a good studio and producer to make us sound better than we imagined! : )
JessicaB says:
This song makes me close my eyes and recenter myself.
In other words, thank you.
Jill Foley says:
Absolutely beautiful! I like the little icon that appears to point out the banjo entry!
Amy Nabors says:
This gives me chills. So beautiful! Excited about getting the album. Thank you for sharing your gift.
shellie (baylormum) says:
I love how the background sounds are layered in and out. What stands at the front & center throughout is your voice. And guitar. Like you demo’d it, only dressed up! The banjo is great. Subtle, but great.
Amy says:
This is the first time I have listened. I was actually afraid too, because I was afraid I wouldn’t like it. BUT I LOVE IT! ๐ Good job.
Amy says:
The music is great. I just have to point that out, because I can hear it more than the words. Don’t worry, that’s me and my hearing. ๐
Ron says:
Most excellent, sir. Most excellent. thank you for the most worshipful moment of my day thus far.
NancyTyler says:
Am I a hopeless audio nerd because I like “reading” the waveforms?
Shaun Groves says:
Yes.
nancytyler says:
Thank you. Sometimes I just need that affirmation. ๐
Ryan Langford says:
Wow. The difference is significant. When we were talking about it on the trip I wasn’t sure if I would be able to hear the difference, but I definitely can. The Mastered version is much clearer and the frequency ranges are nicely separated. I’m really enjoying the new album, BTW. I’m about to preorder the mastered version now.
Shaun Groves says:
Thanks, Ryan!
Zoรซ says:
This is great! Can’t wait for the CD. Listening to this has made my morning. Grace and peace be with you all this fine June day ๐
Jason says:
I can’t wait to hear the whole product.
Jon Sheptock says:
Tell Matt I sing Two Hands to myself all the time… ๐

Kyle says:
Sounds great.
We’ve sung this song with our church a couple of times in the past few weeks. (Hope that’s cool.)
Mela Kamin says:
simple, soothing truth – beautiful, Shaun! the funny thing about mastering is that no one can really explain it – a strange fact I learned when I was having to pay for it … still, it’s one of those things I’m glad I invested in

Yay! Getting closer! Here’s the catch–I’m the girl who’s married to a HUGE Dave Ramsey fan, who pre-paid Ben with CASH for my CD at the Valdosta, GA, Shelter Me Tour concert. ๐ AND–that huge Dave Ramsey fan husband has gotten a job transfer to Cincinnati. We’ll be moving in early July. I’m assuming the postal service will just forward the CD with all of our other forwarded mail (or will it just be a free album download?–either way works for me!)…but if you (or Ben-Stewart-the-Wise) think it might be a problem, I’ll be glad to send our new address for shipping. ๐ By the way, we’ll be living 3 minutes from the Cincinnati airport, so holler if you’re ever stuck in a layover there with a big craving for Mexican food. ๐
