For the next month and a half I’m on the road with Selah and Aaron Shust. Our tour started last night in Thompson Station, Tennessee just a few miles from my house. Then we packed up our gear and drove all night to the Pittsburgh area where we’re playing tonight.
I’m mostly out here to speak about Compassion for a few minutes every evening. Selah and Aaron sell the tickets and perform for most of the night. It’s the perfect gig for me. I sing a little, speak a little, get to see lots of kids get sponsored and I have plenty of time left over to write and get work done. And we’re only out on weekends so I still get to see lots of my family.
And I get to hang out with Todd Smith, the lead singer guy for Selah, husband to Angie and one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. Check out his first video from the tour. (Lies, all lies. Hilarious lies.)
My average day on this tour starts around 8. I’ll wake up, unwrap an Odwalla bar for breakfast and read a little. Then we’ll arrive at the venue – always a church – and I’ll get off the bus, go inside and shower. I’ll call my wife, work a little on-line, grab some lunch in catering – always sandwiches and soup I think. Then I’ve got about four hours before my soundcheck, which takes no more than ten minutes. After that, it’s dinner, show, and then back on the bus for an all night drive to the next city. This can hardly be called a “job” can it?
Life is good. Even better than usual for the next month and a half.
Alrighty. I’ve got a lot of “work” to do so that’s all for now. While I’m away, check out the linkage page for stuff worth spending some time reading and listening to – including a podcast I was fortunate to be part of.
Sarah Mae says:
A little jealous.
I’m truly thankful that I have three children to care for and love full-time, but there are days I’d love to be on the road…
Shaun Groves says:
For short stints it’s OK. But longer than a few days and I’m miserable missing my wife and kids…and my bed.
shayne says:
That’s a beauty of a tour bus you got there! Be safe! Wear clean underwear! Don’t talk to strangers!
No, I don’t know your mom or your wife but I feel sure they either have or will give you the same advice!
Shaun Groves says:
Yes ma’am.
Melody Joy King says:
I am coming out to see you guys tomorrow night in Trucksville, PA. I was gonna come to the show in the Pittsburgh area, but Trucksville’s a LOT closert to home. I was thrilled when I found out you guys were coming that close. I am really looking forward to the show and chatting with you guys afterward.:0) Safe travels.
Shaun Groves says:
Be sure and find me afterward. I’ll be hovering around the Compassion table and would love to meet you in person.
misty says:
Yes, sounds like a tough job. ๐
I really think you guys should come to Knoxville or at least somewhere close.
Maybe this time I would have enough courage to introduce myself! Maybe. Of course if I didn’t I would have to hear it from my husband. Last time he kept saying “you should have met him” and I told him “but, its SHAUN GROVES”. ๐
shayne says:
I agree with Misty. Come to Knoxville. We’re close.
Kelli says:
You guys aren’t coming anywhere near us and I’m a little sad. Have fun, though! Sounds like an awesome group and like a lot of fun weekends coming up! Just so you know…your job rocks. ๐
Katie says:
Nice bus!

God is going to bless you guys abundantly as He uses you to bless others.
Annie says:
GREAT show last night at South Hills Bible Chapel. You touched my heart. The others did as well but for different reasons.
Melody Joy King says:
It was great to meet you in Trucksville last night Shaun. Thanks for chatting for a minute. God bless you guys as you continue you on your tour. :0)
