“What do you do exactly?” he asked in the church parking lot this morning.
I lose track myself. Two weeks ago I was primarily a speaker. Last week I was mostly a songwriter. Some days I’m a homeschool teacher. Today I was a worship leader. Tomorrow I’m an internet marketer…and a singer…and a speaker…interpretive dancer?
I’m headed to Colorado Springs – to Compassion International‘s headquarters – for a slew of meetings about blog marketing, to dream up new ways of letting the world know about Compassion’s kids via the interwebs. And to sing a few songs in Compassion’s employee chapel service. And maybe speak to some managers about what a blog is. And other duties as assigned. Dance anyone?
While I’m away…
What is it you do exactly?
Cathy Davis says:
For a living, I work as a legal secretary. It helps pay the bills! I sense God doing a work in me and I’m not sure where that’s going to lead, but I’m excited to take those steps He asks.
Kelli says:
It seems to change based upon the day or week, but this past week I was a chauffer, a teacher, a speaker, a docter, a nurse, a maid, a journalist, a novelist, a boo-boo fixer, a counselor, a pharmacist, a lovey finder, a cook (a bad one at that), a middle of the night comforter when a fever spiked to 105…
I’m a wife and a mom…and some other stuff on the side. ๐

My business card says “Sr. Reliability Engineer” for my company’s Space Department (my degrees are in aerospace engineering). That’s only part of it though (I do that work part-time, and mostly from home). I’m also AJ, Joanna, and baby #3’s mom, Ryan’s wife, chief cook and bottle washer for our household, our MOPS group’s “Service and Outreach Team Leader,” I’m a member of our choir, occasionally fill in on the praise team, play piano and sing for our “rock ‘n roll” service (and sometimes “lead” it). _Very_ occasionally, I fill in for our Sunday morning worship leader. And each week I “lead” our 3-5-yr-old preschoolers in a time of worship at church (some days more successfully than others). Hopefully I’m a friend to many. I _have_ a blog, although I haven’t written anything lately. And I hope to be a gardener this year now that we have a yard!
To sum up: wife, mom, musician, rocket scientist, would-be writer, hopeful gardener.
Angie says:
well my card says

Katie says:
I go to class.
But someday I’ll be done with that and then I’ll (hopefully) spent the rest of my life awkwardly answering the question you posed. I hope to say I write for God’s glory.
I have the best part-time jobs ever: I blog. I edit. I make copies. I write.

Well my paid gig is working at a shelter for abused women and children. Other days I am babysitter to my three beautiful amazing nieces. Or my two cousins who live in my basement with their mom. The most important job, however, is giving those five opportunites to meet and learn about Jesus. Especially four of them who do not have that opportunity otherwise.

Lindsay says:
I ask myself this question every. single. night. I don’t know exactly what I do. I make waffles and fill up sippy cups. I wash dishes and launder clothes. I ignore toys that need to be cleaned up, and I change diapers. I write blogs and read blogs. I tweet, and I read. I teach my children and train them in the way they should go. I spend my money for kids in other countries and missionaries across seas. I keep my husband happy (in all kinds of ways), and I love people wholly. Whatever it is, I just try to extend the love I’ve been graciously given.

What it is I do…depends on the day.

I am a homeschooling Mama, help-meet to my amazing husband, domestic engineer, Compassion Blogger and Advocate, Sunday school teacher, homeschool co-op administrator, community service coordinator and an artist. My days are busy and I’m often exhausted by 7:30pm, but overall it is a great gig!
Karen says:
Due to some major changes that our family will be making I am finding myself face to face with this question. I am finding that my identitity has become entertwined around some good things, but what I want…REALLY want….is to be a Christ follower first who then does other things — like love my husband and then my boys, and teach bible study.

Two weeks ago I was primarily a teacher (to my four students, a handful of kids who crowd into my basement for writing class, and a bunch of four to six year olds who are learning old testament history – really). Last week I was part nurse and part chauffeur. Some days I’m a mechanic and chef. Yesterday I was a student, a worshiper, and a comforter. Today I was goalie. Tomorrow I’m an accountant…and a personal life coach…and (hopefully) a blogger…nap anyone?
The kids usually just call me mom though.

I am a SINNER.. who is thankful for God’s Grace and Mercy on a second by second basis.. I am a failure to leave it all at the cross which then makes me a bearer of all the wrong choices, bad decisons, and loss of love…
One day I will leave it all.. but in the mean time, I hope that a bit of my compassion and love for others shows just a hint of Jesus…

Hey Shaun,
What I’m wondering is how much if anything does your blog do to “pay the bills”?
No particular reason for being so nosy. Just curious.
