I hate being cold. But I like my hat. This is a picture of me hating the cold and liking my hat.
I got to hate being cold and wear my hat today because we got ourselves some snow. Real snow. Enough to (almost) cover the grass. Enough to merit putting on thermal underwear, hats and gloves and picking a snowball fight.
So I took a camera. Because pictures are worth a thousand words right? And that’s fewer words for my one good hand to peck out at a snail’s pace.
And videos are worth somewhere around a million words right?

I’m all out of words then.
Done.
Tanya Robinson says:
Glad that you got to play in the snow, but sorry about the cold. We’re in Orlando right now and it’s downright miserable.
JessicaB says:
Like Father, like cold-hating Daughter.
Christy says:
Yeah, well I could have told you it was going to be FREEZING and snowy in the south this week. It’s a tradition now that it is that way the week that I drive down to Appomattox to pick my grandmother up and drive her north for the holidays. Hahahaha.
But, seriously, I live in Pennsylvania and HATE the cold myself so I can feel your pain.
Becky says:
The cinematography is breathtaking. š
Amy says:
I wish all you snow haters would send me some!
kiriseth says:
Amy, I agree! Every winter, I bemoan the lack of snow down here in Texas. But this is where the jobs are, so this is where I stay. And back *home*, they’re getting record lows and have had the earliest snow falls in years. (sigh)
Heather U says:
How is it possible that ya’ll get snow and we get a mere dusting here in Virginia? We’re the ones that got 30 + inches dumped on us last year after all! Do I sound a little jealous? In all honesty I am a little envious, could you send some of that weather over here? I’d be more than happy to take it off your hands for you. You know what they say…the snow is always whiter in somebody else’s yard ;).
Megan @ Faith Like Mustard says:
I could never live anywhere north of the Mason Dixon line. I. hate. cold.
But I do dig that hat! Is it Russian sable or authenic nutria fur? (Seinfeld anyone? Anyone???) š
Sara Williams says:
Completely jealous!! Carter asked me yesterday when we were getting our snow. We were quite lucky to have it 2 or 3 times I think. Kids looked like they were having a blast. By the way – great choice of music. I had actually just downloaded that to Moose’s phone this morning. Merry Christmas from Huntsville!!!!
Sara Williams says:
2 or 3 times last winter. Long day š
Jason says:
First Minnesota gets enough to collapse the Metrodome roof, then Nashville gets some? Ugh! Wyoming needs to step it up~
Brandy says:
I was TOTALLY going to say the same thing … but looks like my husband beat me to it ROFL
Julie Jarnagin says:
nice hat.
Gloria says:
Gotta say, I’m feeling very little sympathy due to the fact I live in MN. I can deal with loads of snow, but the below zero temps really make me ornery.
jen says:
Unzipped coats. No matter how good your hat is, if your coat is unzipped, you might just get cold. (I have one . . . or four . . . who run around with their coats unzipped and complain of being cold too.)
Love the video and the kid-smiles and kid-laughter!
rebecca in etx says:
like the hat – absolutely adore the purple fuzzy coat!!!!! too cute
stacie says:
Oh my! You would need that hat in MN~ as we have a high today of 2 degees! We also have drifts over 4 feet after our 18 inches of snow this weekend..and we live in Minneapolis..we LOVE it! We are looking for Aslan and drinking lots of cocoa and eating cookies…your kids would love it here!
Kathy says:
I’m with Gloria above. This Duluth Minnesota morning is -4 F this morning which makes your nostrils freeze closed if you inhale too quickly. And did you see the video of the Metrodome collapsing under too much snow?
Enjoy your dusting of snow! =0)
Robin Lawrimore says:
My Dad hates the cold and he has a hat like yours. You guys should maybe talk sometime about how to keep warm. : )
Kelli says:
God love you for getting out there with them. I love snow. I loathe cold. It was way too cold for me to enjoy the snow. We watched Little House on the Prairie just before my kids went out in the snow. Fittingly it was the episode where they got stuck in a blizzard. My kids begged me to come out and be “Pa” and rescue them from the blizzard. Instead I opted to be “Ma” and wait for them inside with warm milk (flavored with cocoa of course) and a fire.
I don’t have a rockin’ hat that makes the cold worthwhile…
Jason says:
I love your hat!
Thomas Dalke says:
I love the cold experiancing winter wonders such as riding on sleigh pulled by a couple Clydesdales through a forest covered in breath taking hora-frost illuminated only by starlight. No Christmas or neon lights ever looked so beautiful and awesome. Or better the Northern lights as the radiantly dance across the sky making the whole night heavens seem like there on some kind of celestial fire; exuberating the power and glory of God. Cross country skiing across a frozen river or lake and being awed by the colors hews and patterns in the ice. Or skating full speed on a frozen outdoor hockey rink practicing your best moves at twenty below zero as the cold air rushes into your body filling your lungs with such a refreshing breath of life while the sweat freezes on your hair making it look whiter than snow. The sound of a slap shot, like the crack of gunshot, as the puck races around the boards and you race to catch it. The taste of hot chocolate or if your prefer rum after doing so, an incredibly warming rush that invigorates the bodily sensations. Then suddenly remembering wearing your dadās mitts on your frozen toes after a hockey practice to try to unthaw them, the smell of leather still fresh in your mind. Freshly fallen snow (not the wet and mucky looking eastern sea board stuff) but the crystalline stuff we are so privileged to have up in the Canadian Prairies; it reflects and sparkles the star and the moon light, (even street lights) light some sort of highly refined British crystal and youāre dragging your feet through it as you hasten your pace just to watch itās wake as it parts in front of you. Your dog and you bounding through the snow drifts and trying to stay afloat while youāre watching a jack rabbit glide effortlessly across it all. Stumbling upon some deer bedding down in the bur oak mini forests that dot the landscape outside of the city they spring up just at the last second in front of you and hurriedly skip like anxious kangaroos to keep afloat of the snow drifts and escape what startled them. Watching the frozen rivers and creeks and soon swell as the farm fieldās snow melt soon overloads their capacities. Forcing up the unremitted and unyielding ice, the last bastions of winter, to make way for the spring floods and soon to be running sturgeon fish. The ice crashes and collides into each other heaving up and shearing massive and thick walls of ice, awesome! Exuberating the power of the Almighty, who brought about the torrent and spring melt, and who now demands that the seasons must change.

At first I thought they were sledding down on a black garbage bag, which is something my siblings and I would have done at that age. The nap mat is a good idea too, though. š
Adam says:
I love snow, and all the cold weather gear. I live in Ohio where it has been snowing for the past two days…I have a snow blower, but I love digging…is that weird. I only use the snow blower for the “big jobs” like a foot or more (at once). I am so glad to see other people enjoying the snow!
keith says:
Assuming your video is about 30 frames per second, and each frame is a picture worth 1000 words, your 91 second video is worth about 2.73 million words.
Nellie Dee says:
I love your hat! Gives you the “outdoorsy woodsman” look.
You’d fit right in here in western Wisconsin. We have the snow and the frigid temps. Sounds like we may not get above zero today. AND, I HATE HATE HATE being cold too.
JavaJoy says:
This is really funny…because we live in Minnesota and the snowbanks are now taller than my 5 year old.
Thomas Dalke says:
I don’t think it’s wierd Adam, God created us to enjoy His Person and by default His creation and maybe doing so you experiance something of His life within you? At the very least it will keep you fit and healthy and probably happy as well.
Ps. I too like shoveling snow for me it’s another excuse to be outside.
Michelle ~ Blogging from the Boonies says:
Yep, the face…the hat. I snorted.
Patrick says:
Good grief, how do you get your pictures to look so good?
Beth says:
For the record, that hat is a North Dakota original; given to Shaun when he was here one cold February. I bought it as a joke. I never figured he’d actually wear it, much less love it! I hear it’s served him well on trips to frozen lands. Hopefully it will visit ND again some day.

I heart the look on your face while wearing your hat.
Pictures say a thousand words and honey that one was reeeaaally talking. š
Thomas Dalke says:
My desire for you, Adam and for everyone, is that they might experience the life and love of God through faith in Jesus Christ. Thatās why I wrote in Shaunās blog; trying to connect something of the life of Christ within me with someone who hasnāt yet experienced His life within themselves and all of the richness of it. You donāt have like the outdoors (or Robert Frost Poetry) to do that, all you have to do is see your need. That we as collective humanity share one common bond, our sin nature inherited from our ancestral parents Adam and Eve, and that puts us in a place of needing regeneration, of an inner transformation, that only God can do, as Jesus said āUnless you are born again you cannot see the Kingdom of God.ā As well as our having sinned against God, āFor all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Godā Rom. 3:23 and thus our inescapable need for Jesusā crucifixion, to pay for our sins, but also to pave the way for all that is needed for Godās reconciling us back to Himself by Jesusā resurrection from the dead then ascension back to the Father before the Holy Spiritās outpouring who brings us to life and into the Kingdom of God and a personal relationship with God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, when we believe. Again thatās why I wrote trying to reveal just one small aspect of the glorious liberty of Christ, where His liberty not only enriches our own lives, to do and explore so many different things, but also liberates us to accept people from diverse and different backgrounds and their personal likes and dislikes then ourselves. Adam if you haveānt yet come to receive the Lord Jesus Christ please do that and anyone else who reads this please consider that, because there is no greater need in our lives than for that, for all that is life begins with that. āBehold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.ā Rev. 3:20

You’re wearing a hat?
Oh, come on! I can’t believe someone else didn’t beat me to the punch! š I mean, sprinkle a little more salt in that thing, and it wouldn’t be *all* that different than your old haircut! š
I love the cold…and the snow…and winter. Good thing, since I live in Northern IN, and we’ve got over a foot right now. š
