The best stories are true.
When my in-laws come for a visit my father-in-law tells the kids “little Papa” stories every night before bed: Tales from his childhood in Bowie Courts, a segregated government housing project in Texarkana, Tx where people named “Anteater” lived and kids wore clothes sewn from potato sacks and turned bees into motors.
Always in third person. Always little Papa getting into trouble. Always cracking himself up in the retelling.
Storytime with Papa. A tradition worth archiving.

That is so precious, Shaun. It is something your kids will treasure more as they get older. Sounds like some of my mother’s old stories. Ha!

I have been saying for years that I want to record my grandpa telling his stories! You actually DID it! Great job!

I was born in TexARkana (that’s how the locals pronounce it) and grew up just down the road. ๐
I had planned to video my grandparents and never got around to it. Your kids will thank you someday!

This is such a blessing. For those of us who don’t have this privilege of hearing stories with a Papa-Thank-You. It is so precious for memories to carry on and for stories to be told. Stories like this can bring the family together even when it feels torn apart. The stories may be pointless but they bring laughter, they bring tears, they bring an excitement of something we get to look forward to. I love to hear the stories and wisdom. It is one of the greatest gifts we can receive. Thank-you for sharing a bit of your gift with us.
