Shaun Groves says:
Will do.

Oh BOY! Do I agree.

ut for me, I would also like to ask you something. Your responses are always so respectful yet powerful. I had a serious issue when I saw this film the other night and, if it was not for my dear friend who steered me to another area of the theater I think some–very “welsh” things would have spilled out of my mouth.
I am wheelchair bound. In the large multi-plex I frequent there is one area that has an open space for said chair. It is set in like a regular seat so it does not block anything.
A man was sitting in the chair that was next to to the wheelchair area and on the floor he had some shopping bags. I rolled up, smiled and asked him if he could please move.
He simply stared at me and went back to munching on his popcorn. My friend than said something to the effect of
“Excuse me, but could you please move this area is for wheelchairs.”
He didn’t even look up. Just kept munching on his popcorn.
I *assume* he understood english–since the film is in english. And I assume, that if he was deaf–he could lip read.
We got a manager. Who spoke to the man. Said manager came back, and told us.
“He’s not movin’ can’t do anything either…sorry” and walked off.
At this point, I didn’t even want to see the film. I was angry. Not so much at the fact that the guy was sitting in the space–but that the guy wouldn’t respond.
My friend decided that we would sit in the back. Her in the last row, me behind. That way we wouldn’t be blocking any foot traffic.
I was really upset. And, I am obviously still upset. I didn’t know how to be–more forceful without sounding petulant or “pissy.”
How would you have handled the situation? Your readers?
I don’t plan on writing a letter to the theater. I know it would get me no-where and it *was* the man’s fault not the theaters.
SO! Any ideas?
Shaun Groves says:
Wow, that’s a tuffy.
I think you did the right thing by just going elsewhere. Doesn’t set him straight or correct the injustice you felt, but I think it’s the best you could do.
Amy @ My Friend Amy says:
I couldn’t see this for ethical reasons.
Shaun Groves says:
Yep. Wish I’d known who directed it before I saw it. Had no idea he was still making films. You didn’t miss anything ; )
Amy says:
I have no clue who it is! LOL!
Drew says:
Dude, did you see Crazy Heart? Great movie. Also, I hope you’re not referring to Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. While it will never garner even a Dundie (well, it might) it was all kinds of escapist fun.
Have you sent the director a private, respectful email? That might work. LOL…
Shaun Groves says:
Nice one!
I’m not criticizing his character. I was just bored by his movie. ; )
No, I haven’t seen Crazy Heart yet. I heard it was great but the tale of a has been singer songwriter hits a little too close to home for me ; )
Jim Gray says:
i have no idea what we are talking about…as usual…
Shaun Groves says:
The Ghost Writer.
I found it boring.
It killed date night.
I’m hoping to get reimbursed for that.
You’re pretty much up to speed now, Jim.
Dan "da man" says:
OK, so I did like the movie. It took me on intriguing ride. But one of the persons I went with did not like it and I can see why. I don’t know much about Roman Polanski, the director of the film, and maybe if I knew more that would turn me off of it. I thought it was entertaining and kept me guessing, but like most Cohen brothers films, I left the theater thinking the film was fun but in the end talks about the futility of life.
That said, I still think Olivia Williams is one of the best actresses in the industry today.
