I’m busy teaching my kids a little math this morning so while I do some subtraction here’s some stuff to add to your reading list.
1. Anne Jackson is back and redesigned. And her blog is too. Check out Anne’s new stripey do and on-line digs.
2. Barton Damer is contributing sliver of illustration to my new site (in progress) and Brad Ruggles is heading up the design overhaul. Both are great to work with and read.
3. Newsweek says Christianity in America is on the decline. Sort of.
4. Al Mohler reacts.
5. One man makes movie stars and musicians look bad at the same time. Billy Bob’s a multi-tasker, yessir.

i was kind of struck by dr. mohler’s comment that his biggest concern with the decline of christianity in america was with evangelism. i know dr. mohler is a calvinist, and i’ve never quite been able to reconcile calvinism and evangelism. i probably sound as ignorant as can be, but to me, if you’re one of the elect, you’re one of the elect… if that’s how you believe. any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.
Molly says:
OH wow, those boys look very uncomfortable, I guess having Mister Thorton around is a very interesting gig.
Wow.
Kristie says:
That’s funny- “Sort of”. Thanks exactly what I thought about the Newsweek article. A lot of reading a not a lot of conclusions.
Melissa Fitzpatrick says:
Ahhhh… I was actually anticipating Mohler’s response to the Newsweek article. Glad you linked to it. Just anticipating this exchange made me chuckle to myself. Not sure why. Perhaps I just have a dark side I can’t shake. What was so hilarious about the article is that the title and the various pictures (the lone microphone and empty pew- oh so tragic looking) conveyed different messages. I actually picked up the Newsweek article expecting to be on the defensive and then enjoyed it. There were some good points made, at least in my opinion, and you’ve gotta love that he promoted Noll & Marsden. Can’t go totally wrong if you walk away from that article linking to Amazon for a copy of “The Search for Christian America”. Anyway, thanks for the link.

Melissa, tomorrow, as part of Skye Jethani’s blog book tour, I’ll put up a post in which Skye adresses the same article and Mohler’s response. Could be a good conversation starter at the very least.
