I’m the guinea pig for a new form of teaching Worship Leader Magazine is playing with. They’ve partnered with a company called Webex to offer anyone with $39 an on-line “webinar” as part of their magazine’s efforts to train musicians and leaders.
I’ve already taught for them once – a webinar on the biblical definitions of “worship.” This Thursday May 10th at 11AM (PST) I’ll be teaching again, this time on “the kingdom” – what it is, and how understanding it impacts music making and worship leading and lots of other stuff too. This is not a webinar just for “worship leaders.” This is for anyone who wants to better understand what that whole kingdom thing is that Jesus is always talking about.
To register for the webinar you can go here and click on the tab that says “upcoming.” You’ll then see a list of webinars being offered. Select my May 10, 11 AM (Pacific Time) webinar and follow the directions from there.
Registrants receive a detailed e-mail telling them what toll-free phone number to call on May 10 to hear the live audio of me teaching and what web address to go to as well to see my presentation and interact with me and everyone else in the webinar.
The day of the webinar, registrants just call that number, go to that web address, sit back in the comfort of their own home or office, listen to me teach and watch their screens while I flip through slides, play videos, share audio, ask questions or whatever else I decide to try.
The webinar is participatory. Registrants can raise their virtual hand, chat me questions, answer surveys, etc. It’s not like watching TV or listening to an mp3. The webinar is designed to allow me to share with the registrants and the registrants to share with me and each other.
This technology makes it possible for people who can’t get away for a week or a weekend and don’t have hundreds of dollars for conference fees to pick and choose topics they’re interested in learning about, learn about them from home or work, and pay very little for the experience. ($39)
Go here to see a schedule of all webinars being offered by Worship Leader Magazine.
See you there.

Maybe you can teach a webinar on how Worship Leader can create a better, cooler website.

Any chance of any in the future that aren’t during the middle of a work day?
Grovesfan says:
Sounds very interesting, but it’s in the middle of the work day and a bit too expensive after the big cruise.

Shaun Groves says:
I THINK the thinking on Worship Leader’s part is that mostly worship leaders who are in the office during the day will be taking these webinar courses. Having them during the day allows them to use work time for education purposes instead of scarce personal time.
But, yea, I think more of my audience could participate if these courses were offered at some other time.
Any suggestions on when to book these in the future? Weekends? Week nights? When would you be most likely to take a course like this?
Grovesfan says:
Weekends are best for me as evenings are usually tied up with some kids’ activities.
