According to the Associated Press a unanimous decision has been reached by the Supreme Court in the case Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer -vs- Grokster. The justices say file sharing services like Grokster may be held responsible for illegal activities using their service. In other words, Grokster and other like services may now be sued by the entertainment companies for piracy perpetrated using their services.

It is a day for big decisions from the court.
So this means that there will be a rapid chilling effect of such service, I am sure.
Of course the genie is already out of the bottle. The question for me is how this may affect the sharing of information and files in this shrinking electronic world.
Blogs are a good example of how there is a new form of society evloving that has nothing to do with geography and everything to do with interests. File sharing programs were a source of interconnectedness that is still in its infancy.
Ah, for in that electronic dream of life what dreams may come gives us pause when we shuffle off this judicial coil must give us pause. . .
