Downward Mobility
The pastor announced he’d been offered a job elsewhere but had turned it down he told us. He said he was happy in his pulpit, with us.
A few weeks later he was offered less work for more pay at the denomination’s headquarters. He took the job. Said he was “called” to leave.
I was thirteen.
I’ve noticed… 
A Mystic In The Garden
The last school bell rang today. Yellow buses hummed into the neighborhood. And children from the cul-de-sac and just beyond soon filled our house.
It will be this way all Summer.
Kids eating watermelon around our kitchen table. Kids playing doctor in my office. Kids dressing up as princesses in front of the hallway mirror.
Kids everywhere.
And…
