The NFL began with a committee. That committee’s job was to determine where football games would best be played. After much research and deliberation the committee determined that football games are best held outdoors. Definitely not inside houses.
“That’s why you never see an NFL game played in a house,” said the emergency room nurse. Just before he put three staples in Gresham’s head late last night.
Meanwhile, I’m in Indiana and Kentucky speaking on behalf of Compassion International at a couple Newsboys concerts. Seeing lots of children get sponsored. And praying I sell tens of CDs. Because apparently those hospital staples are a tad more expensive than the kind we use at home.
Ouch.

When he’s a famous football player, he will have the best stories to tell.
Though he is kind of famous already with all your readers.
And OUCH!
That picture made me cringe!
I had staples after an attempted homebirth led to a c-section, but for some reason staples on a head are much more cringe-worthy.
Hope he’s not in too much pain!
Ewww, I don’t know about that, Michelle. Staples anywhere are pretty cringe-worthy. Across the stomach? Cringing here.
Been there, done that. I was only bummed that I couldn’t have another epidural when they were removed.
Praying Gresham and his head are feeling right as rain as soon as possible!
Awww…praying for both of you…for Gresham’s wound and for hearts and pocketbooks to open in response to your messsage.
But he’s going to look awesome one day when he’s an intimidating whatever-football-position-he-is and he shaves his head.
He was a back of some kind but recently got moved to quarterback, which my more sports-inclined friends say is not a back no matter what the name implies.
As long as he’s not a Nickelback.
Move to Canada. The staples in his head would be FREE. Plus we’d get to see you in concert more!
I just want to chime in and say that I love that you wrote “tens of CDs” instead of “tons of CDs”. You’ll be a Christian thousandaire before you know it!
Like!
our football-loving son had a few staples in his head about a year ago. it’s NOT fun! his, however, was not as exciting as in-the-house-football, just a general lack of spacial awareness on his part. hope he heals up quickly. maybe you’ll be home for the staple removal — it’s “fun” on both ends!
blessings,
shana
Oh! I literally cringed. Staples in the head? Ouch is right! On the plus side, he’s got a great story.
Speaking from experience they are easier to take out yourself!
Sorry for Becky……
I think every football loving child needs a few stitches. I know I cracked my on many a cabinet doors that others (or I guess myself if I am being honest) left open.
Hope he heals quickly!
I know some families have a rainy day money jar. At my house, we have a co-pay jar. I frequently tell the kids if you wonder if something is a good idea, check the co-pay jar first because if we can’t cover it, then the answer is no. They laugh and sometimes make better choices. Op word – sometimes. And yes, the child that uses the jar the most is asked to donate to it with his birthday money.
My son plays football around the house as well, indoors and out. Hopefully we can avoid the staples for a while, and the splints, and the casts…
God Bless you in your work!
Shaun, your whole album is helping us through a difficult time as our daughter is hospitalized for a third episode of brain infection in 3 years. Especially Come By Here and Kingdom Come, which I have quoted on my blog. Thank you for your obedience in sharing your gift and God-breathed lyrics so that we might be comforted.
