“What are you giving up for Lent?” Becky asked.
After a long pause Gabriella, the ten year-old said, “Soft drinks.”
“I’m giving up cherries,” the five year-old, Penelope, said.
“You don’t eat cherries. It has to be something hard to give up,” Gabriella instructed.
“Justin Bieber!” she blurted. “No…icecream!”
She paused. “No, my birthday. I want ice cream for my party.”
“I’m giving up Penelope,” her big brother Gresham decided.
What are your plans for Lent?

That’s awesome! If he can give up his sister, I’m giving up my thesis!
Katie
So cute.
I’ll give up labor contractions for Lent! And baby weight as well! Both of those things would be difficult to do.
Gresham = awesome.
Gresham = Win.
My ten year old announced at breakfast that he was giving up school for Lent. I countered that I was giving up mommy chores. We compromised – all desserts and sweets. Pray for us as we are candy eaters.
Facebook..
My son said he was giving up school and that he is severely allergic.
I was going to give up chocolate, but since I only REALLY crave chocolate for a few days a month, I decided that wasn’t much of a sacrifice. I finally settled on my {almost} daily Chick-Fil-A for breakfast. Heaven help me.
Awww, I know what Penelope means. My birthday always falls during Lent so giving up chocolate or ice cream was always so hard for me. I generally build in a specific exemption for my birthday so I can have some cake.
This year for Lent I am giving up processed food and worry (placing my worries on the Lord and trusting Him rather than trying to fix everything myself).
I’m giving up stress. And since I tend to “snack” when I stress, I will also indirectly be giving up a lot of things dipped in chocolate or covered in salt. Two birds– one stone. Bam.
I’m giving up facebook. I started a week and a half ago… so I don’t know if I can actually give it up if it’s already given up, but I’m saying I’m giving it up. haha
Your kids are AWESOME!
I’m with Gabriella. Soda. And if I’m being honest, it shouldn’t stop with Lent – I need to just go ahead and give it up for good…
Soft drinks and fried sides (french fries, tater tots, etc.). Hopefully in the process, I’ll also give up a handful of lbs.
1 meal a day. (also benefits the upcoming swimsuit season)
peanut butter.
At the first of the year I went gluten, dairy and sugar free. Peanut butter is my one treat right now.
