A Heart For Achile

When you sponsor a child through Compassion International you are committing to pray, write letters and give $38 every month so that your sponsored child’s physical and spiritual needs can be met through a church in their neighborhood.

But what if the child’s need is greater than your $38?

In such cases, Compassion International has set funds aside to meet extreme needs that are outside the scope of its basic child development program. These funds are called “Complimentary Intervention” funds. They’re spent on such things as providing water purification systems, disaster relief, construction, providing electricity, or for medical care well beyond basic check-ups and vaccinations.

When a need exists that cannot be covered by the $38 provision of monthly sponsorship, these complimentary intervention funds kick in and literally save lives.

My son’s sponsored child, Achile, was born with a cluster of heart defects called tetralogy of Fallot. First diagnosed at age three, he’s been in pain ever since, unable to attend school regularly.

Compassion has provided medical care for Achile for the last two years at the National Teaching Hospital Yalgado Ouedraogo in Burkina Faso in Western Africa. However, doctors there now believe his condition necessitates an urgent heart surgery which is not possible in Burkina Faso. Achile has been transported to a specialized hospital in India for the life-saving operation that will cost an estimated $20,449.

Our $38 a month sponsorship won’t cover this cost. Complimentary intervention funds set aside for medical emergencies will.

When we became Achile’s sponsors, I told Compassion I’d do what I could – and so would you – to raise the complimentary intervention funds necessary to cover Achile’s surgery.

I told them, actually, that you and I would raise more than enough to cover Achile’s operation, sending every extra penny raised into Compassion’s medical fund for future life-saving.

So, here we go. Click the widget or banner below or go here to help cover the cost of fixing Achile’s heart.

And don’t forget to pray. I’ll keep you updated if I get any progress report on his surgery and recovery.

Thank you!
