Gresham (age 7) and I are learning about cheetahs this morning. And personal limitations.
So far he’s written that…
- A cheetah is a mammal.
- Cheetahs live in the savannah.
- Cheetahs live in Africa.
- Cheetahs eat little animals like antelope, hares and baby wildebeest.
- Cheetahs are covered with fur.
- Cheetahs can get up to 45 miles an hour in 2 seconds.
- They can run up to 71 miles per hour.
- It has very good eyesight.
- Oh, and one more thing about how fast it can run. It can get up to 60 miles an hour in 3 seconds.
“I’m a lot slower than a cheetah. But I’m faster than a motor scooter. If a cheetah is on a motor scooter chasing me I’m safe.”
This is important stuff for a little animal to know.

Home schoolin’ family? Somehow along the way of reading your posts I wondered if you all home schooled….thinking, “Now, they would make a fun HS’ing family.”
I would love to read how/why/when/what y’alls journey has been like. We are officially starting our first year of HS’ing our son next year. Encouragement is VERY welcome.
This is like the old joke about two campers being chased by a hungry bear. One camper sits down and takes the time to put on his running shoes. His buddy says, “You know there is no way you can out run that bear.” The guy finishes tying his shoes and says, “I know. I don’t mean to outrun the bear. I only need to outrun you.”
Bah dum dum.
that’s some interesting 7 year old logic
I hope you ate some Cheetos lest the whole lesson be a loss.
LOL — at least he has an escape plan mapped out. That’s always reassuring.
Excellent observations.
I have a seven year old boy too. They are wonderful, smelly little creatures for whom the world is one big opportunity to do something fun. Anywhere, anytime.
LOL @ the “cheetos” comment.
Oh, I love it! That makes me feel a whole lot better about cheetahs too;)
