Skinny Elephants

My girls like to draw.  They’re gifted little people. They can’t help themselves; they wake up wanting to make stuff and go to bed wanting more time to make stuff.

They’re artists. But sometimes they get stuck before they even get started creating.

“I don’t know what to draw,” they’ll say.  And if I say “Draw a caterpillar or a picture of Mommy” then they’ll tell me that’s boring.

So, the other day, I said something crazy instead. “Draw a skinny elephant.”

“Elephants aren’t skinny,” my oldest said.  “What does a skinny elephant look like?” asked the youngest.

And so, one of my girls set out to draw a caterpillar, and the other to draw what’s never been seen.
