“Mother Teresa and two of her sisters would come to the bridge and find a few children living there. She would feed them under a tree and teach them A B C and things,” the pastor told us.
“One day it was raining and she came to this office. She said she didn’t have anywhere to meet with them – Could she use our portico.”
“It was Mother. What could I say?”
What started as a favor to Mother Teresa on a rainy day many years ago grew to become the children’s ministry of this Protestant church here in Kolkata. The children moved from the portico into the sanctuary, from the fringes of this church’s ministry to its center.
Five years ago the pastor approached Compassion International about partnering together to minister to even more children in the slums in the surrounding neighborhood.
Today around 300 children receive tutoring, food, medical attention, a safe place to play and worship Jesus together at this local church thanks to sponsors like you and a pastor who couldn’t tell Mother no.

Beautiful post.

Hi,
There are no East India children currently available to sponsor on the website, only IN children. I already sponsor two IN children and was looking for an EI child. Do you have child packets for available children there?
By the way, is this project EI 119?
I sponsored a Ugandan girl after reading the Ugandan Blogs in 2008. These blogging trips really do make a difference!!!
Thank you,
Shelly

Working on verifying that, Shelly. We’re working on it. I’m sure the IT guys have already noticed but I just sent them a little e-mail nudge too ; ) Thanks for the heads up.
Yes, that was project #119 in Kolkata.

Thanks for letting God work through all of you and all of the beautiful insights into how the world is being changed one child at a time. Praying for your team to have a safe journey home. Love reading your blog.

We just signed up for another child.
One of the best things we did for our kids was show them the Mother Theresa movie on Easter last yr.
And, we send our kids off on mission trips.
They truly are happier kids when they realize how much they have.
Following your trip – and Robin. Blessings!
