and the LAMB of God was born to a woman who could not afford to buy her own lamb.

Our Lord does love symmetry.

Imagine being a pastor and having to preach on Christmas every year! Our church’s pastor recently noticed that this was one of the most difficult aspects of having preached in the same church for so long - making it new to people in some way and not developing a mindset within himself that treats Christmas as “old hat” every year. This is not an easy thing to do.

In general, I think it can be alarmingly easy to lose the wonder when one has been a Christian for pretty much one’s entire life. We might be older and wiser, but sometimes there’s a lot that we stand to learn from those who have just come to the faith, making the conscious decision to do so well into adulthood.

Bottom line: We need each other.

I also think it is significant that shepherds were the first to receive the news of the birth. It is my understanding they were outcast. They were typically poor and considered unclean and thus not allowed to participate in worship with other Jews. So yes, I agree, God sought the poor and the outcast first (and so should we).

I started reading Christmas carols every morning to see them in a new light. It has been amazing to read lines that I’ve sung all my life and have them come alive to me like never before. To meditate on the impact of those words… it’s been wonderful!

Thanks for sharing. Awesome stuff!

Having grown up in a pastor’s home, for some reason, has not dimmed the mystery and awe of Christmas for me.

For some reason, it becomes dearer and more awesome each year.

But good for you for studying it afresh. Looks like you are learning some new things and new ways to make it meaningful for you.
