Our family decided to sponsor a child a 2 years ago, I think, and it has been so wonderful. Every member of the family gets involved in writing letters and sharing about our lives and hearing about hearing about her life, and it’s been a very encouraging thing to know we can spread the gospel and love of Christ not just in hapless America, but also in needful countries. I am so thankful for Compassion and their work for Christ.

Personal testimony is so powerful. Yesterday a speaker with World Vision came to the college and one girl finally decided to sponsor a child b/c she could see that they could be trusted.

I totally agree. It’s life as usual for us I think until our eyes are truly opened to the needs around us, both here and far away.

I am encouraged by this blog and by the hearts of the people who comment. Seems we are all striving to be the hands and feet of Christ and trying to be retrained by a true Gospel and simplify our lives for the good of others.

I too was a skeptic...not just Compassion, but all of those type organizations. I’d see the commercials on TV and wonder if they really did what they said with the money, or were pennies going to the actual project and the rest to some American in a mansion. I always wanted to give to one, but didn’t know what to believe. Then, last year I read about the Uganda trip on Boo Mama’s blog and RIMD and was so glad for that experience. In a first-hand way, it showed me that Compassion does what they say they do. So, we’ve been sponsoring a little boy in Uganda since. I also just read all the blogs from the DR trip. I so agree with you about the Church helping the wounded and not just hoarding more for ourselves. It has been a process for me, and I admit I still struggle thinking “I need....” No, I don’t need a fourth coat when some have none. I don’t need this year’s latest fashion when some have only one shirt. etc., etc., etc. We are so slapped in the face with consumerism that we have to retrain our brains. Thanks for helping to open our eyes!
