I will be sitting through traffic school in the great state of KY on Tuesday of next week. They don’t mess around here. It’s my second go at it in 10 years. Could be worse, I suppose, but still I dread those darn videos of car crashes!
For future purposes, NEVER speed on 65! they get ya every time!

Yes, I think that’s why you shouldn’t drive much if you can take that good of a picture while driving. I’ve had 3 tickets: 1 red light, 2 speeding and I’m working hard on being more focused while driving.

I had a couple of speeding tickets while in college. I was also ticketed for rear ending someone in an accident. That’s the law in Florida. Never mind that the person I “rear-ended” STOPPED in the middle of the road and proceeded to BACK UP because she’d missed a turn! She was not ticketed for anything. I got the ticket and a trip to the hospital for whip lash and a possible jaw fracture. This one made me mad to say the least. Made the judge mad too. The arresting officer came to court without the information on the other driver (refused to give it to me). He told the judge he had it “back at the office.” He lied. The judge threw the book at him then. Moral of this story: never lie to a judge. Especially one who is very good friends with the defendant’s father and serves a Gideon with him!

The only other ticket was received in Oklahoma. I was driving to Texas to attend an Air Force tech. school. I picked up my map to check where I was supposed to exit and apparently the speed changed at that moment. A very “nice” OK state patrolman pulled me over. Big, with a very southern drawl, and a sort of “Bufford T. Justice swagger about him.

Officer: License and registration ma’am.

Me: Yes sir. Is there a problem sir?

Officer: You were doing 65 in a 55 ma’am.

Me: I’m sorry. I was checking my map for my exit and must’ve missed the sign.

Officer: (as he’s writing my ticket) Well, I don’t know how they do things up ‘er in Michigan ma’am, but we don’t tolerate no lawbreakers in our state ma’am. You kin send this here ticket in with yer check or you kin present yerself in to the judge on Mundee mornin’. You have a nice day, hear?

A NICE day? Sure.

I went to traffic school when I got my ticket to avoid having them report it to my insurance. By went to traffic school, I mean that it was online. it was supposed to take 8 hours and I zipped through it in 2. Most of it was about how illegal drugs affect your driving. One sentence about what I did for the ticket.

Cinde, that’s hilarious, I have never heard of that. (I mean obviously it’s not hilarious for you....)

I need to talk to Becky about how to get out of those tickets. Have not been able to get out of one...not one...the blue-eyed blondeness has never worked. Why just last week I was ticketed for not having my turn signal on long enough before I turned. For the love of pete, don’t you cops have a crack house to bust? Why pick on a blonde, mini-van driving mom? Since when is a brief turn signal a menace to society? Becky - teach me your ways!!

My last ticket was in KY in ‘95. A friend (attorney) of a friend was supposed to go to court for me to get it changed to a non-points violation --- and didn’t show up --- even after a reminder call to my friend the day before. I called the day after and was assured everything was taken care of.

Fast forward a few weeks… I come home to an FTA bench warrant on my door! Glad I wasn’t home or I would have been hauled in.

I redocketed. An officer called 2 days later about the warrant - the night before I was boarding a plane to FL to board a ship to the Bahamas. I didn’t want to miss my plane so I didn’t call back! I wouldn’t really advise that, though.

Needless to say - I showed up the next time in case he didn’t. He showed and got it knocked down to defective equipment. I left 30 seconds after he did. He had no clue I was there since we had never met. His friend and I lost contact soon after.

You might have to appear in court because of the amount you were going over the limit.

I know in Indiana, at least, 25mph over the limit was considered reckless driving, and it’s a misdemeanor offense, as opposed to a normal “infraction” of a speeding ticket.

Oh, this rental car had cruise control, Nancy. But cruise control won’t stop you from accelerating. Which is really solving only half the problem now isn’t it?
