Some songs are written about faith and others are written because of it. This is the second kind. And it’s still very rough of course, recorded literally seconds after the last lines were written, whispered while I was “watching” Brian‘s sleeping kids – but here’s what I have so far:

I’m not your mother

I’m not your mother

I won’t wrap my love ‘round a sword

I’m not your father

I’m not your father

I won’t give up and make* for the door

I understand

As far as you know

I might cut you and call it a kiss

Make some promise and go off missed

Love don’t look like this**

And the whole wide world

Isn’t after you

No, we’re dodging demons too I swear***

No, the whole wide world

We’re not after you

We’re all busy too, trying to stand up here***

* I like “make” better than what I sang

** probably a background vocal, not the lead

*** Not quite what I’m wanting to say yet
