Great post! Great perspective!

We watched Oprah’s tribute to MLK and the human rights issue today and made our kids watch too.

May we not be ignorant or true history.

Great post. MLK has been on my mind a lot today. I can’t imagine what it must have been like for him to give that speech in 1963. I think it’s amazing that he stood up for his beliefs even though he knew it would probably mean that his life would be taken from him. Unbelievable courage and conviction. I posted his “I Have a Dream” speech on my blog.

Clint,

I didn’t mean to imply that you were ignorant. Sorry! I was just confused—I didn’t get the metaphor you were going for.

Much clearer, Clint. I thought you were being literal as well, but not ignorant. Sorry ‘bout that.

Julie,
Impressive! No ones ever used so many words to call me ignorant. Good thing that I don’t have feelings. If I did, they may be hurt.

I know the couple in the post was mythical. I was curious about Shaun’s or anyone else’s opinion about the current health of the REAL interracial couple that Dr. King removed the door for. Sorry, I didn’t communicate that well.

Where I live, the real couple exist cordially in the same room, but they don’t do much talking.

Great post!
On the great day, I am inspired and frustrated. Inspired because I want to be a man that loves regardless of skin color or socio-economic position.
Yet, I am frustrated by the failure of some in the Black Community to follow MLK’s own speech. He is the man to be set forth as a role model and leader (I realize he was human and therefore a sinner), yet in many cases it seems like the Black Community has tried to satisfy its thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred, they have failed to conduct their struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline, their creative protests have degenerated into physical violence.
I guess what I am trying to say is with all the good that MLK did, is continuing to blame the White Community for past ills the best way to remember a leader who encouraged us all to be brothers and sisters moving forward in harmony and understanding?

It is unbelievable to me that people so far are more focused on a mythical couple instead of the TRUE story of the amazing man we are celebrating today.

So, is the couple still married?

Most conflicts involve some selfishness on both sides.

Even with the door knob removed, there’s a threshold to be crossed.
