This is cool. Not just the 3D concert from U2 but the way they’re spreading the word. I have marketing envy. I’ve got it real bad.
Anybody know how one goes about making a widget like this? Any computer genius out there want a job?

Looks great. Still love to watch Rattle and Hum. But this is probably going to blow that out of the water.
lots of cameras
lots of money
very cool!
Looks like a basic flash ad to me. Doesn’t seem like it’d would be that hard to do. I’ve done similar things with SwishMax for my work site and it’s actually a lot of fun to do. (http://www.ddhsoftware.com)
Let me know if you need any pointers!
Dave, it also has the “embed” feature and a bunch of other ways to spread this thing though. Can you do that with your program? I guess the “movie” in this thing is a swf file then? So you could put a new swf file in your folder out on a server somewhere and it would play in this widget wherever it’s embedded – is that right?
FIRST you sell your soul to “Best Buy” and “National Geographic”… then you commit 90% of your income to an ad agency and then you play back a virtual video of a concert to your 35000 closest friends several times while looping a chord structure that every thirteen year old wants to memorize…
other than that it’s simple.
I can widgetise it if someone else makes it. Or I can make it and widgetise it. However, someone else needs to provide the video.
What do you use, Pete W?
And there’s a blog.
Shaun, the embed part is easy as that’s how Flash is done anyway, you add a tag to embed an object (which is just a single SWF file). So the key is showing that in some flash animated menu. The email part would also be fairly easy to do (I haven’t done that much flash, but on my music site, I did the entire site as a single embedded flash file and it has a way to email which was easy enough to do). The harder/more tedious part would be all that widget stuff. Figuring out how each one of those services accepts embed tags and widgets. I think that’s where the project would get to be cumbersome and not as much fun!
