I struggle with that. Do I write my thoughts down so other people can read them and be impressed? It seems ludicrous to write stuff down and assume other people want to read it.

But I don’t think the only biblical picture of spiritual guidance is like the one we have in our heads. The one where the only way to learn is with a perfectly qualified master teacher and a bunch of lowly pupils; the Bible (in teaching the priesthood of the believer) allows us, messed up, misinformed, not the brightest candle in the menorah us...to grow through interacting with the Bible and each other. We can learn from people more educated than us and share that with others. Thats how I look at what I write...not as a master teacher informing the uneducated internet masses but as a 21 year old kid sitting in his office trying to figure out what it means to follow Christ. Failing lots but always trying to learn...thats why I overcame the initial “there’s lots of people better than me so why write at all” reaction.

I only read one blog that gives me the impression that the fellow who writes it is truly narcissistic. (It’s not this one.) Could be that there are many of those; I don’t know. I read about 10 regularly. I get insight, encouragement, etc. It’s nice to read about other people with similar beliefs, callings, and struggles.

Maybe your wife shouldn’t have a blog if she’s not at all interested. Or maybe you should start one for her and write a few entries from her perspective until it irritates her enough that she yanks the computer from your hands and writes it herself. That’s what my loving husband did for me.

Why tell the world your private thoughts? Good question. I can only say that as a faithful blog reader of several blogs, including this one, I have been changed, motivated, encouraged, chastised and revived in my life. And it’s all because someone took a second to express what was on their heart. I know when I read some blogs, I will laugh every day. And i know when I read other blogs, i will think about what i’ve read all day long.

Everyone brings something different to tthe page....i’d love to see what your blog would be like!

I recently got back in the habit after a year off or so. I read a lot of books and blogs and journals and magazines. I process information better when I compose my thoughts in a “Here’s what I’m thinking” paragraph or two. I find it difficult/ineffective to write in journals because my handwriting makes yesterdays amazing insight more like the gordian knot. I also value other people’s reaction to what I’ve got to say which is highly unlikely if I write them in a private journal.

I said the same thing when I heard about the whole blogging thing. I waited until just this year to start. I think I started because it was a way to get my thoughts out of my head and if anyone else read them fine, but that was not my goal. I have a 4 1/2 yr. old and have started homeschooling her so life gets busy and at the end of the day I look forward to sorting out my thoughts, and blogging has really helped me do that.

Reasons for Becky to blog/reasons my wife blogs:

Drawers are more likely to burn during a house fire…

Other people might just get inspired or otherwise be lifted up by reading those thoughts… Don’t hide your light under a basket.

Family, friends, stalkers...er...fans have to rifle through unmentionables to get to a journal in the drawer.

Meet new people with similar interests.

Vent. Solicit some sympathy, especially when hubby has no understanding of even why he should be sypathetic in a given situation.

Raise internet presence to allow old boyfriends an easier time finding you.

Hard to win some of those myriad of blog awards without a blog.
