It’s a well-known bit of wisdom in the South: You don’t have to put a lid on a bucket of crabs.
You don’t have to because if one crab attempts an ascent the other crabs always pull him back down.

Like the Christian who decides the Gospel has implications in the here and now—power over sin, freedom from the law, and an obligation to live out one’s faith. The church then reacts immediately… “NO!!! Jesus just died to get us into Heaven when we DIE! How dare you taint the gospel like that! Get back here in the mire of moment by moment sin and discouragement! Fool!”
interesting
hmmm… i’ve lived in the South all my life and never realized that. so true. such implications.
I just ate some fresh steamed shrimp….

So…uh…may I ask what inspired this post?
Sidebar: I’m reading Atlas Shrugged again – for fun – and you basically just summed up 1200 pages in one sentence. I would that Rand had your brevity.
Yes, you may ask. I may not answer.
I never understood why “would that” is grammatically correct. Sounds smart; seems to be missing a verb.
Shaun, what inspired this post?
I would that you would answer with clarity and your aforementioned brevity.
You went to one of them colleges didn’t you, Todd?
Let’s just say there are those who’ve called me militant, a fanatic and have taken every opportunity to try to debunk and belittle my latest healthy eating choices…which I have NEVER recommended to or forced upon anyone else, nor looked down on others from on top of. I have illnesses this diet is rumored to have cured. I am likely to get illnesses, because of gene pool, that this diet is rumored to have staved off. That’s my only motivation for making a change in my diet for an evaluation period of two months. I’m trying to climb out of the bucket.
Of course I don’t think the other crabs see themselves as downers. They have good intentions. Really. I think.
Obviously the “Debbie downers” you are surrounded by are upset that you’re eschewing their entire worldview by…um…eschewing meat – or not chewing meat if you will. (cue pompous college laugh rich people do)
I will say that I am shocked by your two month evaluation. You’re giving it the old college try, so to speak. (Does anybody know the origin of that saying and/or what it means?)
Hey Shaun,
Even though I was one celebrating moderation on another post, I’d just like to say….
Good for you!!!!!!!!
I think it’s very difficult to make these sorts of changes, and it’s always difficult to diet and go against the status quo…so even if I’m not fully convinced that this is something that must be done, I think it’s awesome that you’re doing it and giving it a go and trying to be a better healthier person for the sake of yourself and your loved ones and poor children in the world who will benefit from the longer you are able to do what you do.
Why don’t we encourage one another more?
Celebrating moderation? Good thing. Name calling? Not so much.
Thanks for the boost out of the bucket, Todd and CaliAmy. Preshate it.
