I’ll be recording my first podcast in May. It will be a conversation, not an interview, with Derek Webb and some other stuff too. Knowing how comma deficient Derek and I are I’m sure we’ll have to spread that interview out over a few podcasts actually. Other people I’d like to talk with for future podcasts are the Montgomery Flea Market guy about his chances of winning a Grammy, Brant Hansen about church and my Dad about his time in Vietnam and after.
Who else would you like to hear me talk with? What else would you like to hear on a podcast of mine? What other podcasts do you listen to regularly? What do you like about them? And is this whole internet thing just a fad or do you think it’ll catch on and be around a while?

Shaun, that’s awesome!!! I’m addicted to podcasts and I subscribe to 15 of them and casually check out a few others. My dream interview would be to hear you talk with Ed Robertson (BNL) as I think you both have a similar sense of humor. Since that is unlikely, I’d love to hear you and Rob Bell talk.
My top 5 favorite podcasts right now are: 1)Relevant Magazine, 2)Mars Hill Bible Church (Rob Bell), 3)Downhere, 4)NRT New Christian Music, 5)The LOST Community tied with Official LOST podcast.
Past favorites include 1)Derek Webb (he just started up again after a long break), 2)Donald Miller, 3)Todd Agnew, 4)BNL (favorite all-time if you dig up old pre-BNL are Me with Ed Robertson from last spring (check out episodes 1-10 or so). 5)myCCM (interviews).
Can’t wait to hear the Soft Rock Star, I’m sure you’ll be my new #1 Podcast!
I wasn’t planing on chiming in on this thread so soon but I truly can’t stand the Relevant podcast. I’m curious as to what you love about it. I’m not saying you’re wrong, I may be missing something, but to me it sounds like a bunch of twenty-somethings sitting in a room with a microphone making fun of Christians they don’t like and quoting “news stories” from Entertainment Weekly. But, hey, that’s me. What do YOU like about it?
And Rob Bell would think circles around me. But if I ever feel like feeling not smart maybe I’ll give him a call.
By BNL I assume you mean Bare Naked Ladies. I’m not sure I want to unleash the Candians on my listenership too soon in the podcast series. Not sure they can handle the degree of sarcasm inherent in all Canadian conversation. Hmmm.
I’d love to hear your conversation with your dad on Vietnam and the Gulf War. We’ve talked a little about how that time affected you, but I’d like to know more and also how he thinks it affected you and your mom and sister. What his thoughts are about war in general now, etc. I’d also be very interested in Bible studies taught by you. Maybe a series of some sort (like the Beattitudes one you did for IKON) or church history (early and recent). I say all this as if I know anything at all about how podcasts work so the first thing you’ll have to do is give me a lesson on how this all works.

Shaun, did you hear the Relevant interview with Donald Miller about 4-6 weeks ago? It was in 2 parts and he discussed his new book and chimed in on one of the immature contests they run. That was probably a highlight.
My answer about Relevant is that I like the political discussions, the interviews and the fun that they have. I agree that they banter too much and I already discussed the immature contests.
As for BNL, yes I mean Barenaked Ladies and I was a fan before the podcasts, but they really built up the “buzz” for the new CD’s and I literally pre-ordered their CD’s months before they came out. They remarked that when BNL are Me came out in September, they had the best street date sales ever (over 200,000 copies I believe). I also felt like I knew the songs because of the pre-release discussion which I really enjoyed. My favorite feature in the early podcasts was a “What were they thinking when they wrote that song?” Something I think you could also do.
As for Rob Bell, I think he’d respect your opinions on worship as I’ve heard him make some of your same comments. If you can’t get him, I can definitely set up an interview with my pastor who is also a Rob Bell podcast listener (and SHLOG reader).

Whats a podcast?
If you want to talk to people can’t you just call them on the phone?
And, no this internet thing will never last. It is totally not even mentioned in the Authorized 1611 translation.
Maybe you could talk with Stanley Haeurwaus some time or some up-coming presidential candidates. Maybe you could play some rough cuts of new songs on which you are working.
I really like the Bored-Again Christian, because it’s an avenue to explore new music that I usually end up liking or at least find interesting. I actually suggested that they play you. They said they were “o.k.” with you but thought you might be a little “too CCM” for the listeners. I think even using that label is counterproductive to what they are trying to accomplish, but I guess everyone has their niche.
The only other podcast I subscribe to is Derek Webb’s. It used to be kind of interactive where he would answer listener’s questions, but it’s gone in a different direction recently.
I think it’d be awesome if you had a podcast. I would definitely subscribe to it. What would you put on it? That’s a good question, I think it’d be great to get your insight on the Music industry (interviews et all) and what God is doing in your life right now.
The podcasts I listen to are as follows:
-The Merlin Show (I’ve been loving that one lately)
-A bunch of design podcasts
-Daily Audio Bible (a great start to the day even if it is a little corny with the background audio)
-Relevant Podcast (though I have grown tired of the banter lately too)
-Mr. Deity is a good one if you can handle some good tongue and cheek humor.
-30 seconds with Phone Guy is funny if you like Merlin Mann
How about interviewing me!? Kidding, I want you to *keep* your listeners!
I’d like to hear an interview with your wife.
I know the question was asked of you (at a recent conference) about balancing family and career, but I’d like to know more of what your wife feels is her role in everything? Does she have her own ideals of ministry etc or is her role more that of supporting you?
I’m a new shlog reader and must say that I am enjoying it thus far.
Jim
Shaun, I’d like to hear you talk with Seth Godin and Donald Miller. I’d also like to hear you sing demos of songs after you tell about what inspired you.
Best Podcast Ever, hands-down:
The Ricky Gervais Show
It’s also the most-listened-to podcast on the planet, which makes me feel not-cutting-edge, but that’s okay.
