I’m stuffed! Thanks for the invite Shaun! It was just the awkward-cool-good food-fun we expected. We would have said more...but the food was soooo good!

I can say I have experienced “authentic” Mexican-American food prepared by family friends. I say Mexican-American as these friends were born in the states as were their parents. Their grandparents were from Mexico originally.

Knowing the kinds of things that they prepare and eat on a daily basis is the reason why I call what you find in “Mexican” restaurants “Tex/Mex” as it follows the same general menu.

I can say without a doubt that there is nothing better than a freshly cooked, homemade flour tortilla. If I could make them myself, I would never buy another loaf of bread.

REAL MEXICAN food? C’mon haven’t you guys seen the commercials… up here in Nebraska we have a place called Taco Bell… Try it sometime, and you’ll go back to burgers and fries!

After being a guest at two or three homes in our community who happen to be “actual” Mexican families… I have concluded “There is no authentic Mexican Restaurant. If momma or pappy ain’t actually in the kitchen its a hoax!”

That said, I wish I could join y’all…

Everyone’s welcome? Even if I show up with my wife, 3-year old girl, and 3-week old son?

Dew, spending time with people I don’t know is nothing new in my line of work. I like that a lot actually. Not awkward as long as no one acts awkwardly. Everyone’s welcome.

Pappasito’s is the standard by which I measure all Tex/Mex. Myself a native Texan now living in Alabama, I share your prejudice toward inferior food that calls itself Tex/Mex.

Anytime I am in the Houston Area there are two meals that must be had. One is chicken fried chicken (with gravy) at Jax Grill. The other is Pappasito’s.

Unfortunately, I have not been to Houston in several years. I am tempted to make a 10 hour drive to join the party, though.

Hey Shaun!

I’ve never commented, but read ya’ll (You, Brant & Brody) everyday for the last couple of years. And, I got to say that would be very cool to hang with ya’ll at ‘Sito’s. Is it for anyone or more for people you blog with all the time? It might be a little awkward not knowing anyone ya know!

Pappasitos?

I’m not jealous. I’m not jealous. I’m not jealous.

I’ll just be eating hospital food, but I’m not jealous.

Really.

I’m not.

Jealous.

(Ironically, my captcha word for this comment is “born98” - hopefully the 98 isn’t indicative of the number of hours I’ll be in labor or the weight of my child.)

Anyway, have fun at pappasitos. Eat lots and lots of chips, salsa and queso for me.
