I’m fixin’ to head to Texas. I’ll be in Corpus Christi Friday night, have a day off in Sugarland (Houston area) Saturday, and play at the church where my father-in-law pastors Sunday morning and evening.
If you live in the Houston/Sugarland area and love Pappasito’s, come worship there with us Saturday. Meet us at the Sugarland Pappasito’s at 5PM and we’ll grab a big ol’ table for a couple dozen and gorge ourselves. God bless Pappasito’s.
Here’s the address and a number for Brody to call when he gets lost:
Pappasito’s Mexican Cantina
13750 Southwest Frwy., Sugar Land 77478
(281) 565-9797
By the way, I ate what Californians call Mexican food while in Brody’s hometown. He and his family took me to “the best Mexican restaurant in town” and thus began the great Mexican food shoot out of 2007. We documented every dish with photos. I scientifically recorded my thoughts about the fajitas and chicken taco as well. Be there Saturday night to witness Brody’s absolute amazement (and defeat) as he bites into manna for the first time. Pictures will follow. But wouldn’t you rather see it for yourself? I bet he gets saved. Queso can do that.

Make sure he orders something – like steak fajitas – where they serve that melted butter stuff on the side. It is literally unbelievable.
It is almost unfair to compare anything to Pappasitos.
Pappasitos is anointed.
Aren’t you in Houston, Travis? If you’re in town you should come out and hang with us.
I wish I could. I travel with Beth Moore, who is from Houston, but I live in Franklin.
Eat some for me. Can you bring 3 ounces of the butter back on the plane?
Have a great weekend.
Woot! Do you need a headcount or just show up?
Just show up.
“I bet he gets saved. Queso can do that.”
That calls to mind an Andrew Peterson song…have you heard the hilarity (based on La Hacienda) that is “Alien Conspiracy”?
Pappasitos?
I’m not jealous. I’m not jealous. I’m not jealous.
I’ll just be eating hospital food, but I’m not jealous.
Really.
I’m not.
Jealous.
(Ironically, my captcha word for this comment is “born98” – hopefully the 98 isn’t indicative of the number of hours I’ll be in labor or the weight of my child.)
Anyway, have fun at pappasitos. Eat lots and lots of chips, salsa and queso for me.
Hey Shaun!
I’ve never commented, but read ya’ll (You, Brant & Brody) everyday for the last couple of years. And, I got to say that would be very cool to hang with ya’ll at ‘Sito’s. Is it for anyone or more for people you blog with all the time? It might be a little awkward not knowing anyone ya know!
Pappasito’s is the standard by which I measure all Tex/Mex. Myself a native Texan now living in Alabama, I share your prejudice toward inferior food that calls itself Tex/Mex.
Anytime I am in the Houston Area there are two meals that must be had. One is chicken fried chicken (with gravy) at Jax Grill. The other is Pappasito’s.
Unfortunately, I have not been to Houston in several years. I am tempted to make a 10 hour drive to join the party, though.
Dew, spending time with people I don’t know is nothing new in my line of work. I like that a lot actually. Not awkward as long as no one acts awkwardly. Everyone’s welcome.
Everyone’s welcome? Even if I show up with my wife, 3-year old girl, and 3-week old son?
And if you are up in the Fort Worth area someday, we can all do Joe T’s. And then the next night go to Papa’s.
B~
REAL MEXICAN food? C’mon haven’t you guys seen the commercials… up here in Nebraska we have a place called Taco Bell… Try it sometime, and you’ll go back to burgers and fries!
After being a guest at two or three homes in our community who happen to be “actual” Mexican families… I have concluded “There is no authentic Mexican Restaurant. If momma or pappy ain’t actually in the kitchen its a hoax!”
That said, I wish I could join y’all…
I can say I have experienced “authentic” Mexican-American food prepared by family friends. I say Mexican-American as these friends were born in the states as were their parents. Their grandparents were from Mexico originally.
Knowing the kinds of things that they prepare and eat on a daily basis is the reason why I call what you find in “Mexican” restaurants “Tex/Mex” as it follows the same general menu.
I can say without a doubt that there is nothing better than a freshly cooked, homemade flour tortilla. If I could make them myself, I would never buy another loaf of bread.
I love me some Mexican, but I think we have some good stuff down here in southern cali, I hope so anyway…considering our population!
Love that AP song…laugh every time.
I’m stuffed! Thanks for the invite Shaun! It was just the awkward-cool-good food-fun we expected. We would have said more…but the food was soooo good!
