Over lunch – reheated burritos at the kitchen table:
“So, are you OK?” she asked.
“What do you mean?”
“You look really tired. I’m not used to seeing tired for a while.”
“Thanks.”
“Well.”
“Well, how long’s a while?” I asked.
“I don’t know, a few days.”
“I’m just not getting enough sleep and no caffeine is kicking my butt.”
“Or you’re thirty three,” she smirked.
Penalty: unnecessary sarcasm shortly after a difficult birthday.
Tonight’s date night and if she thinks there’ll be any business time she’s sorely mistaken.
I’m taking a nap.

And you didn’t come back with “yes but you’re older than I am”???
You’re slipping, man. Get back on the caffeine and hurry!
Nancy beat me to that reminder! But a) you really must have been tired not to respond thusly, or b) you want to keep business options open. Could be c) all of the above. Have a lovely date night.
I didn’t realize we are so close in age. Of course, you are much older then my 31 almost 32 years.
Shaun,
Becky’s concerned because she loves you and the sarcasm is due to the same thing. Neither one would happen if she didn’t love you.
Why was your birthday so difficult? My 33rd birthday was difficult for me because I kept thinking about how much Christ had accomplished in his 33 years on earth and how LITTLE I’d felt I’d accomplished in the same timeframe. First off, I’m NOT God; and neither are you. Christ-likeness is something we strive for, knowing that we’ll never get it perfect.
Quit beating yourself up. You’re doing great and will continue to do so; because God loves you, and so does Becky.
Beth
Are you wearing business socks today?
Happy Birthday!
